Special adviser to PM Abe visits Yasukuni
Seiichi Eto, special adviser to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, visits the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo on April 21, 2016, the first day of its spring festival. While approving a "masakaki" tree ritual offering, Abe did not deliver it in person, in an apparent effort to avoid friction with China and South Korea, which, among other Asian nations, see the shrine as a symbol of Japan's past militarism as it honors convicted war criminals along with millions of war dead.
