Annual Aoi festival held in Kyoto

A parade of the annual Aoi Matsuri, one of the three main festivals of Kyoto, Japan, arrives at the Shimogamo Shrine on the way to Kamigamo Shrine on May 15, 2016. Around 500 participants, dressed as nobles of the Heian Period (794-1185), walked with decorated ox carts and horses along an eight-kilometer course from Kyoto Imperial Palace to Kamigamo Shrine during the festival, which dates back 1,400 years.
