Tohoku Rokkon Festival starts in northern Japan

Around 1,300 people parade through the streets as the two-day Tohoku Rokkon Festival kicks off in the northern Japan city of Aomori on June 25, 2016. The festival, which assembles the major summer festivals from the six prefectures in the northern Tohoku region, was launched in 2011 to help promote reconstruction in the area that was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
