Court to retry man convicted of 1985 murder in Kumamoto
Koki Miyata, who served a 13-year prison term, attends a press conference in a wheelchair in the southwestern Japan city of Kumamoto on June 30, 2016, after the Kumamoto District Court decided to retry the 83-year-old, who confessed he killed a 59-year-old acquaintance in 1985. The court said "doubts have been raised" over the credibility of his initial confessions, pointing to "contradictions" found between what he said and evidence presented by Miyata's defense team.
