Sendai airport privatized
Airplanes await departure from Sendai airport in the northeastern Japan city of Sendai on July 1, 2016, the day the state-owned airport was privatized. Sendai International Airport Co., which purchased the right to operate the airport for 30 years for 2.2 billion yen from the state, aims to draw more passengers in a bid to support local efforts to recover from the 2011 tsunami disaster.
