2 Cabinet ministers visit Yasukuni
Sanae Takaichi (R), internal affairs minister, and Tamayo Marukawa, minister in charge of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, visit the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo on Aug. 15, 2016, the 71st anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II, while Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent a ritual offering. The move immediately drew criticism from South Korea, one of the Asian neighbors that suffered Japanese wartime aggression. (Kyodo)
