LDP may lose next election if nuclear exit becomes main issue: ex-PM
Former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is interviewed by Kyodo News in Tokyo on Oct. 19, 2016. Koizumi, who served as prime minister between 2001 and 2006, said the pro-nuclear ruling party of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe could lose the next lower house election if whether to give up nuclear power becomes the main election issue. Koizumi has become an active antinuclear campaigner since the March 2011 earthquake-tsunami disaster, which triggered nuclear meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. (Kyodo)
