Japan's grim population outlook makes immigration talk inevitable
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga refers to the latest government estimate on the country's population during a press conference in Tokyo on April 10, 2017. An expected population drop to 88.08 million by 2065, down roughly 30 percent from its 2015 level, is likely to bring forward the debate on immigration, despite the government's refusal to use the word "immigration" to describe its policies.
