Clock festival held at shrine celebrating Japan's 1st timepiece
Women clad in ancient Japanese court dresses hold timepieces during an annual clock festival on June 10, 2017, at a Shinto shrine in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, in western Japan. Emperor Tenji (626-672) is enshrined at Omi Shrine as its diety, he is said to be the founding father of the system of time in Japan. (Kyodo)
