Kanto Festival begins in Akita
A man balances a pole decorated with paper lanterns on his shoulder during the annual Kanto Festival in the northern Japanese city of Akita on Aug. 3, 2017, the opening day of the four-day event. The lanterns are arranged in a way so as to look like an ear of rice. Organizers expect some 1.32 million people to visit the city to see the festival. (Kyodo)
