Cattle in radiation-exposed area in northeastern Japan
Photo taken on Aug. 18, 2018 shows Iwate University professor Keiji Okada (front) taking a blood sample from a cow at a farm in an area designated by the Japanese government as an evacuation zone in Namie, Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan, located near the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Some farmers in the area refused to follow the government's instruction to slaughter cattle after the 2011 nuclear crisis. (Kyodo)
