            KM Biologics begins development of vaccine for novel coronavirus

            KM Biologics (Kita Ward, Kumamoto City) has started to develop a vaccine for a new coronavirus infection. At a press conference held on April 25, President Nagasato said, "Our strength lies in the fact that we have skilled technicians and facilities from our days at the Research Institute for Chemotherapy and Serotherapy (KAKETSUKEN). As a member of the Meiji Group, we will do our utmost to expand this business. The new drug will be developed jointly with the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, the Institute of Medical Science of the University of Tokyo, and the National Institute of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition.               Aerology Lab (Minoh City, Osaka Prefecture) announced on April 14 that it has developed a prototype of a "purely Japanese" flying robot (drone), "AeroRange Pro" (photo), which consists entirely of parts made in Japan. In general, drones rely on parts made in China for most of their components. The company aims to start mass production in small lots by December. (Minato Ward, Osaka City), which operates an open innovation base, Kobashi Robotics (Minami Ward, Okayama City), which supports mass production, and Liberace (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo), which comprehensively supports venture businesses from trial manufacture to mass production. The company is promoting speedy manufacturing in cooperation with town factories in Kansai and other regions. The hybrid drone combines an engine and an electric motor.                     Foxter Corporation (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture) will release in May a hybrid image processing system that combines Preferred Networks' (PFN, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) artificial intelligence (AI) visual inspection and conventional image processing methods.The company will market the system in Japan and China in cooperation with a subsidiary of the OPTEX Group, which is engaged in the manufacture of lighting for image processing, in terms of sales and service. The sales target is 200 units a year. Auto parts manufacturers and others have already begun to introduce the system on a trial basis.
