Oita Pref. to open new museum next April

OITA, Japan - The Oita Prefectural Art Museum, designed by award-winning Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, is unveiled to citizens on Nov. 23, 2014. The museum in Oita City, southwestern Japan is set to open in April 2015.

Film about A-bomb survivors premiers at U.N.

NEW YORK, United States - A film that follows more than 100 atomic bomb survivors as they travel around the world on the ''Peace Boat'' premiered at U.N. headquarters on Oct. 26, 2009. Directed by Costa Rica's Erika Bagnarello, the film, ''FLASHES OF HOPE: Hibakusha Traveling the World,'' captured the voices of 103 victims of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.

Kyodo News to construct new headquarters

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the projected new headquarters of Kyodo News to be completed by June 2003. Kyodo said Oct. 23 it will hold a ground-breaking ceremony Oct. 24 to commemorate the start of construction of the new 34-story headquarters in Tokyo's Minato Ward. The ''Shiodome Media Tower'' will be constructed on a land plot which was once part of the premises of the defunct Japanese National Railways' (JNR) Shiodome freight train station.
