Kyodo News to construct new headquarters

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the projected new headquarters of Kyodo News to be completed by June 2003. Kyodo said Oct. 23 it will hold a ground-breaking ceremony Oct. 24 to commemorate the start of construction of the new 34-story headquarters in Tokyo's Minato Ward. The ''Shiodome Media Tower'' will be constructed on a land plot which was once part of the premises of the defunct Japanese National Railways' (JNR) Shiodome freight train station.

Taiwan museum's exhibitions in Japan might be canceled

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken June 20, 2014, shows signboards advertising an exhibition, scheduled to begin June 24, of ancient Chinese artifacts from Taiwan's National Palace Museum, set up inside JR Ueno Station in Tokyo's Taito Ward. The word "national" is omitted in referring to the museum on the signboards. Taiwan warned the same day the exhibition will be canceled if posters and other promotional materials prepared by the Japanese side continue to omit the word "national" in referring to the museum.

Kyodo News marks completion of new HQ in Shiodome site

TOKYO, Japan - Kyodo News on July 17 marked the completion of its new headquarters (shown in photo) in the Shiodome waterfront redevelopment zone in Tokyo with an opening ceremony. Shiodome Media Tower, a 172-meter skyscraper with 34 stories above ground and four below, features the latest communications facilities including high-speed fiber-optic networks.
