15th anniversary of train derailment in western Japan
West Japan Railway Co. President Kazuaki Hasegawa (C) bows at a memorial built at the site of a massive 2005 train derailment in Amagasaki, western Japan, on April 25, 2020, its 15th anniversary. A rush-hour commuter train on the JR Fukuchiyama Line derailed and crashed into a condominium building after entering a curved section of track traveling well in excess of its maximum permitted speed, killing the driver and 106 passengers, and injuring 562 people.
