Death of N. Korean abduction victim's father
Photo taken in Tokyo in August 2014 shows Shigeru Yokota (2nd from L) and his wife Sakie (L), the parents of Megumi Yokota, who was abducted by North Korea at age 13 in 1977, attending a concert held in hopes of her early return home. Shigeru Yokota died on June 5, 2020, at age 87, without ever being reunited with his daughter, a symbolic figure in the issue of North Korea's abductions of Japanese nationals in the 1970s and 1980s.
