Japan lawmaker rearrested over casino graft scandal

He was served a fresh warrant on Aug. 20, 2020, for allegedly offering to pay money to witnesses in reward for falsely testifying in court in connection with the scandal, in which he has already been indicted for receiving cash and other gifts from the Chinese firm 500.com in 2017 and 2018 while he was playing a major role in spearheading Japan's move to legalize casino resorts.
