Hokkaido town applies for nuclear waste disposal site survey
Haruo Kataoka, mayor of Suttsu, a small Hokkaido town in northern Japan, meets the press in Tokyo on Oct. 9, 2020, after submitting a document to the quasi-governmental Nuclear Waste Management Organization applying for a land assessment to be undertaken. The assessment is a part of the process for selecting a municipality to host a final disposal site for high-level radioactive waste from nuclear power plants.
