Slovak Catholic meeting rejects Istanbul Conve, Andrej Danko

Hundreds of Slovaks came to the centre of the capital city to join a prayer meeting that Christian activists organised against the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women on February 11, 2020, in Bratislava, Slovakia. Slovakia has not ratified the convention, but it has become a hot issue ahead of the general election in the Roman Catholic country. Slovak parliament chairman Andrej Danko, center, (junior government Slovak National Party, SNS) and People's Party Our Slovakia (far-right opposition LSNS) leader Marian Kotleba, both of whom have been criticising the convention for a long time, were among those who took part in the meeting.
