        Hotarujaya is viewed from the upstream side. Ichinose Bridge is on the right of the teahouse, and the handrail is visible through the trees. The road on the left is Nagasaki Road leading to Himi Pass. A new road stretching from this point to Yagami on the other side of the mountain was constructed in 1882 by the Himi Shindo Co. led by Matsuda Gengoro and eight others. The topography suggests that this was taken from the valley at the west entrance of Asahi Tunnel on the former Japan National Railroad San'in Line, facing northwest. Mt. Ushimatsu is visible in the centre. Since no railroad tracks are visible, the photograph was probably taken before the opening of Sagano-Sonobe Line of Kyoto Railway in August 1899. This photograph is assumed to have been taken in Mid-Meiji Period around the same time as the photograph #2827 and #4240, as the wooden bridge which surrounds the river and the teahouse were already built. This is downstream from Urami Falls at Arasawa, which lie above Kirifuri Falls.                   This is Zeniya River, upstream from Nakashima River. The residence of photographer Ueno Hikoma is the house with the white wall by the side of the large tree. To the left of the stone lantern (washed away by the great flood of 1982) is Nakashima Confucian Shrine. A sluice probably to control water flow is seen on the riverbed in front of the Ueno residence. The person on the left is standing on the road paved with stones for rickshaws. The protruding area of the mountain in the background is Buzenbo peak and the range continuing to Mt.
