        Female pilgrims climb the stone steps to Kondo Hall at Nin'naji Temple. The photograph was taken facing east from the eastern approach to Kan'nondo Hall. The women wear zori slippers, hold long walking sticks, and carry something on their backs. The irimoya-style building in the rear may be a place for drinking water.               The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G.                 This is a stereograph of the stone steps leading to the Okusha (inner shrine) containing the tomb of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Visitors reach these steps after passing under the famous Nemurineko (sleeping cat) carving in the east corridor of the main hall at Nikko Toshogu and going through Sakashita Gate.                   The red-painted Shinkyo Bridge built over Daiya River is located at the entrance of Nikko Shaji. The Shinkyo Bridge lost in the flood of 1901 had joints in the bridge girders, as seen in the photo.The present Shinkyo Bridge has no girders. There are no electric poles on the side of Rinoji Temple to the right.
