The master carpenter is holding a deerstalker hat and wearing leather shoes. They may have dressed up for the photograph.                 Farmers are busy planting rice in flooded paddies near Kyoto. They are barefoot and wearing short kimonos because of the water. The women have their heads covered with hand towels, and the men wear straw hats to protect themselves from the sun.
