Negishi Bay was known to foreigners as Mississippi Bay after the nickname given to it by Commodore Perry. Part of the new road built for foreigners, Fudo Slope was praised by them as one of the most beautiful scenes in the world. Like #4950 and #4951, this is a stereograph made by the American company Underwood & Underwood. It shows the mountains in the western part of Hyogo Prefecture seen from Harima bay. Many foreigners visiting Japan enjoyed the scenery of the Seto Inland Sea while traveling between Nagasaki and Kobe or Osaka. Mt. Asama seen from Katsukake

Mt. Asama (2568m) as seen from the post town of Kutsukake, one of the three post towns of Asama-Negoshi. The Nakasendo Highway passes the southern foot of the mountain. It was after the opening of the first road built as part of the Seven Route Construction Project of Nagano Prefecture in 1883 that carriage traffic appeared. The stream is Yukawa. A road to Honmoku and Negishi was built for foreigners in 1864. Horse carriages were able to pass the following year, and many visitors came along the foot of the hill to enjoy the scenic beauty of Honmoku Juniten Shinto Shrine. Western view of the northern part of Kyoto from the Yoshimizu Hot Spring building. The road stretching from the centre of the photo to the left corner is the approach to Yasaka Shinto Shrine. Although the site would later become Maruyama Park, no work has been done yet, and a few restaurants stand in the area. A two-story Western-style building of yosemune-zukuri style stands on the northeast side of the street where cherry blossoms would later become a tourist attraction.
