This is the smaller Taiko-bashi (Sori-bashi) located in front of the Romon (Sakura Gate) on the right. The Wisteria Festival of Kameido Tenjin Shrine held from mid-April to mid-May every year is a harbinger of summer. There are many other events held at the shrine. The parents of young children release carp into Shinji Pond during the Shichi-Go-San Festival on November 15 to pray for the healthy growth of their children.         Northern view of Oike Pond Garden and Otsune Palace from Keyaki Bridge, looking over Nakashima Island in the Garden. The stone bridge on the right leads to the northern island. Pines and firs grow in front of the palace. Oike Garden was built during the Enpo Period (1673-81). This type of garden, called kaiyushiki, had bridges, lanterns, and small pavilions to enhance enjoyment of the beauty of the garden. Otsune Palace is built in the shoin-zukuri style and was rebuilt in 1855.           This is a teahouse in front of Otenmon Gate at Heian Shrine. Lanterns hang near the wisteria trellis. People are relaxing under the wisteria blossoms.             Yasaka Shrine is seen from the east, facing west. The main hall is on the right and the worship hall on the left. The main hall, rebuilt by the fourth shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna in 1654, is modeled after the Shishinden. Built in single-story irimoya style with a cedar-bark roof, the front is about 12m and the sides about 11m wide. The deity Susano-no-mikoto is worshipped in the central chamber, Kushiinadahime-no-mikoto in the eastern chamber, and Hachiojishin in the western chamber. Taken by F.                 The wisteria trellis at Kameido Tenjin was famous from the Edo era and has been portrayed in ukiyoe (wood block prints) and nishikie (coloured prints). The wisteria trellis in the photo was destroyed during World WarⅡ, and the present trellis was restored after the war.                   Monument erected to commemorate the victims of the 1877 Seinan War (Satsuma Rebellion). It was built at Iseyama Kodaijingu the year following the war. Iseyama Kodaijingu (Shinto shrine) was built after the relocation of a small shrine from Tobe-machi to Nogeyama in 1870.                     Kameido Shrine

                    Kameido Tenmangu Shrine (present-day Kameido Tenjinsha) is one of the three main shrines dedicated to Sugawara Michizane. The other two are Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto. The shrine is said to go back to the year 1661when the Shinto priest of Dazaifu, Sugawara Otorii Nobusuke, carved a holy image from the wood of the tobiume (plum tree) and enshrined it in the eastern part of Honjo. However, the date is later than photograph #4799 by Usui Shuzaburo because the cherry trees have grown. The sign board of the Seiyoken Annex faces in a direction different from that in photograph #4799.
