Shijo Ohashi Bridge over the Kamo River

View of Shijo-Ohashi Bridge from across the Kamogawa River, facing west. The iron bridge was built in 1874 and has round lights on its parapets. Yaomasa Restaurant is located on the north side of the west end of the bridge. In the middle of the bridge is a Western-style temporary arch and a sign that says Sanshisuimei (an expression to describe the beauty of the mountains and water) . Torii gates at Fushimi Shrine

The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G. A cargo boat on the Nihonbashi River

View of Nihonbashi River looking west, taken from Nihonbashi Bridge. The river is busy with cargo boats. Mt. Fuji was visible from this spot on clear days. The left side of the river is Nishi-gashi (west riverside), and the bridge visible in the far right is Nishi (West) Bridge. This was a transitional period when land transportation was replacing water transportation, but at this time the canal still played a major role in transporting goods. Stone steps on the approach to the Okusha,Toshogu Shrine,Nikko

Visitors reach these steps after passing under the famous Nemurineko (sleeping cat) carving in the east corridor of the main hall at Nikko Toshogu and going through Sakashita Gate.
