Deai-jaya (teahouses for dating) lined the approach to Nakanoshima until 1877. The circumference of Shinobazu Pond was filled in in 1868. The Omote-sando approach to Nikko Toshogu is viewed from Nakayama Street. The ditch in the centre no longer exists. At the end of the approach is Toshogu. The stone torii and Omotemon (Niomon) can be seen in the cedar grove. The Hyakumonozoroe Sennin Gyoretsu (1,000 Samurai Procession Festival) passes along this approach. Byobu torii gate at the approach to hakone shrine

The approach to Ikuta Shrine

The approach to Ikuta Shinto Shrine taken around the turn of the 20th century. Formerly referred to as Ikuta-no-Baba, this was a scenic path lined with plum and cherry trees and stretching for about 870 meters from the shrine to the beach. A road to Honmoku and Negishi was built for foreigners in 1864. Horse carriages were able to pass the following year, and many visitors came along the foot of the hill to enjoy the scenic beauty of Honmoku Juniten Shinto Shrine. Western view of the northern part of Kyoto from the Yoshimizu Hot Spring building. The road stretching from the centre of the photo to the left corner is the approach to Yasaka Shinto Shrine. A two-story Western-style building of yosemune-zukuri style stands on the northeast side of the street where cherry blossoms would later become a tourist attraction.
