Yamate Park opened in 1870 as a recreation facility for foreigners living in Yokohama. Performances by the British Military Band, flower shows and other events were held here. A wisteria trellis at Kameido Shrine

This is the smaller Taiko-bashi (Sori-bashi) located in front of the Romon (Sakura Gate) on the right. A caravan of rickshaws carrying people to view the cherry blossoms at Ueno Park. This photograph was taken some time after photograph #3155. The Seiyoken Annex sign is gone, and the cherry trees have grown. Shades are hanging from the eaves of the teahouse on the left, and its name, Insho-tei is written thereon. On the right, the Great Buddha still has its halo. Cherry trees at Suwa Park

The west side of Suwa Park is viewed from near the fountain around 1895. The cherry blossoms in full bloom are depicted with bright tinting. This is said to be the first Western-style fountain built in Japan. The cherry trees inside the fence seems to be the ganjitsu-sakura species. Growing flowers to be shipped to central Tokyo became popular in Isoko, Okamura, and Tomioka from mid-Meiji Period on and some of the flowers were exported. Kameido Shrine

Kameido Tenmangu Shrine (present-day Kameido Tenjinsha) is one of the three main shrines dedicated to Sugawara Michizane. The other two are Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in Fukuoka and Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto. The shrine is said to go back to the year 1661when the Shinto priest of Dazaifu, Sugawara Otorii Nobusuke, carved a holy image from the wood of the tobiume (plum tree) and enshrined it in the eastern part of Honjo. However, the date is later than photograph #4799 by Usui Shuzaburo because the cherry trees have grown. The sign board of the Seiyoken Annex faces in a direction different from that in photograph #4799.
