    Judging from the condition of the trees, this appears to be the Tamadare Waterfall before it was incorporated as Takinomae Park in 1891. The young woman is possibly an employee of a nearby inn. The volume of water is abundant and this photo shows the force of the falls before the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, when half of the fall was destroyed. Currently the falls, which are in the garden of Tenseien Hotel, are open to the public.         The Great Bell,Chion-in Temple

        The big bell of Chion-in Temple is seen from the west side of the bell tower. Men and women in kimono are looking at the bell over the iron fence. Also called Yoshimizu's Bell, this is the largest bronze bell in Japan and was cast at Sanjo-Kamanza foundry in 1636. It is 5.4m high, 2.7m in diameter, 29cm thick, and weighs 7.5 tons.             Medaki waterfall at Nunobiki Falls, taken around the same time as photographs #2814 and 2827 (Medaki Waterfall of Nunobiki). The presence of the wooden bridge over the river and the teahouse and the absence of a water supply pump suggest that this was taken on the mid-Meiji Period.
