Ginkakuji Temple

The Silver Pavilion at Jionji Temple seen from the western edge of Kikyo Pond, facing west. Also called Kannon-do, the pavilion was built in 1489 by order of Ashikaga Yoshimasa and restored in 1639. The building is in two-story houkei style with a kokera (thin long plank) roof. The greenery on the left is Sen'nin-shu.     Five-story pagoda at Hokanji Temple

    The five-story pagoda of Hokanji Temple is viewed facing east. There are many visitors on the temple approach, and a gas light is visible. The pagoda, also called Yasaka Tower, was built in 1440 by Ashikaga Yoshinori and underwent major repair work in 1618. Featuring a tiled roof, it is 40m tall and 5.5m wide.               Taishi-do of Higashihonganji Temple is viewed from the southeast. There are many children around the big water fountain. The Taishi-do took 15 years to build. It was completed in 1895 according to the wishes of the head priest, Otani Kosho. Built in single-story irimoya style with a tiled roof, it is 76m wide, 56m deep, 38m high, and covers 3,800 square metres.                 This is Shichishoen at Mukojima, the villa of the Hotta family, former feudal lords of the Sakura Clan. The villa was owned by the family from 1868 to 1887. Of kaiyushiki (garden with a pond and promenade style), the garden was watered by the Sumida River and changed according to the tides. It was referred to as one of the best gardens in Tokyo.                       This is a scene of the Sakurababa and Irabayashi neighbourhoods near the fork of Nakashima River and Narutaki River (present-day Nakanohashi bridge). This scenery was given the poetic name Sakuraba Seiran (cherry blossom storm) and was known as one of the eight best scenes of Nagasaki.
