A pattern similar to that in photograph #4749 is visible under the eave of the Jogu Romon (upper shrine gate). The cleansing basin is located on the right side, at the foot of the stone stairs. Kora-Myojin Shrine is behind it. Neither were in existence after the first years of the Meiji Period.     The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G.           This is Kagami-ike (Mirror Pond) located at the southeast of Chumon Gate of Todaiji Temple. Since Mt. Wakakusa is visible afar, this is the view from the Nanboku (lit. South-North) approach to the temple when facing southeast. The stairs at west of Nakashima Island and a torii gate are present.             The five-story pagoda is viewed from Toyokuni Shrine (Senjokaku, or One Thousand Mat Hall ) on Tonooka Hill on the east side of Itsukushima Shinto Shrine. Senjokaku Hall was built in 1587 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi for the monthly Buddhist rite of reading of the Senbukyo sutra. The magnificent hall was built in irimoya architectural style with a tiled roof.                       This stereograph entitled No.301 Daibuts-Statue in Kamakura is thought to have been taken in the beginning of the Meiji Period because there are bronze lotus petals in front of the statue. The stone paved approach is the same as that in photograph #5372.
