The name Enoshima appears in Azumakagami (chronicle of the Kamakura Shogunate) as follows: Mongaku built the Great Benzaiten at Enoshima on April 5th, 1182.       The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G.         Going down the Hozu River

        A raft shooting rapids is seen from the northern shore of the Hozu River. Boatmen are sitting on the rocks observing the scene. People took the approximately 16km boat ride from Hozu Town in Kameoka to Togetsu Bridge in Arashiyama. The river boats that carried lumber and goods from Tanba Kameoka to Kyoto were converted to leisure boats at the end of the Meiji Period when the Kyoto Railway was established.           Balcony of the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple seen from Okuno-in, facing west-northwest. Among the sightseers there are women with parasols. It is probably the beginning of summer because the trees are lush with leaves. The terrace was renovated in 1633. The building is in the yosemune style, and the roof is made entirely of hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side.               The balcony off the main hall of Kiyomizu Temple seen from Okuno-in, facing west-northwest. There are four people on the balcony. The fallen leaves in the South Garden suggest winter. The balcony was renovated in 1633. The yosemune style building is roofed entirely with hinoki tree bark. Wings flank the west side and the east and west of the south side. The wooden fencing inside the railing is to prevent people from falling.
