Kinkakuji Temple

The Golden Pavilion at Rokuon-ji Temple seen from the eastern edge of Kyoko Pond, facing west-northwest. The rock on the left is Hosokawa-ishi, and Ashihara Island is visible behind. The temple was built in 1398 but destroyed by arson in 1950. Unlike the reconstructed building of today, the original roof was supported by many columns at each level. Water weeds fill the surface of the pond. Pine forest surrounds the area. The background is unclear due to the poor colouration. Shinkyo Bridge,the Daiyagawa River

The red-painted bridge over the Daiya River is located at the entrance of Nikko Shaji. The stone girders of Shinkyo Bridge which were destroyed in the flooding of 1902 had joints as seen in the left of the photo. The Miyanoshita Road

This is the point where Hayakawa River flows to the left, about the halfway between Ohiradai and Tonosawa. The street on the upper right opened for car traffic between Tonosawa and Miyanoshita in July, 1887. It is the present National Route 1. The Hakone Road

This photo depicts the Old Hakone Highway and the mountains of Hakone viewed from the mountain nearer Yumoto than Hatajuku Post Town. The winding old Tokaido Highway runs through the foot of Mt. Hakugin in the foreground. Three mountain peaks afar are from the right, Mt. Soun, Shinzan, and Komagadake. The flat hill lying before them is Mt. Takasu. Soryu Gate and Osugataiwa Rock at Haruna Shinto Shrine

The God of worship is Kasanreishin. The shrine building is of Gongen style rebuilt in the fourth year of Kansei (1792), and a rare rock called Osugata iwa stands in the background. The rock is seen in the center of the photo by the Soryu Gate further from the stone steps. Several people can be seen including priests. A wooden brifge in the mountains of Hakone

There are many rivers and streams, big and small, in Hakone mountains. However, the major rivers are Hayakawa and Sukumo. It is difficult to tell which one this is, but judging from the width and the shapes of the rocks, it is probable that this is Sukumo River.
