Miyako-Odori Dancing

Miyako-Odori Dancing

Maiko dance with flowers on stage. Lanterns are hanging from the ceiling. A large audience sits on a level lower than the stage. The Miyako Odori dance was first performed at the Kyoto Exposition in 1872 as a way to attract more visitors to Kyoto after Tokyo became Japan's capital city. Inoue Yachiyo of the Third Kyomai Inoue School choreographed the dance.==Date:unknown, Place:Kyoto, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number83‐26‐0]
