This photo captures the inside of the west corridor surrounding the main hall of Kasuga Taqisha Shrine from around the Naijimon Gate, which is also the north gate when facing east slightly northerly direction. Iden stands west of the corridor and there is Houko, a 2 x 2 bay building with itakura style, north of it.                   The red Senbon Torii (one thousand gates) along the eastern approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha are viewed looking southeast. The approach starts at Kamigoden Hall on the east side of the shrine precincts and stretches in a southeasterly direction to the foot of Mt. Inari, Myobusha. There are many visitors. The man on the lower left may be a beggar. The marks on the torii gate indicate that this photograph was taken after February 1889, probably by British photographer H. G.                     The front of the Yomei Gate. In the centre is a plague with an inscription by the Emperor Omizuo. The upper part of the gate is covered with carvings of dragons while the lower part is covered with Chinese lions. To the left and right of the walls are attending deities.                       This is the south side of the 220m corridor that stretches east to west from the sodebei wall of Yomeimon at Nikko Toshogu. The south side is decorated with 25 different carvings. A candlestick is attached to each carving to light the corridor.
