The damage from a typhoon,Hong Kong

When a party of Frenchmen en route to observe a transit of Venus across the sun stopped at Hong Kong on September 22, 1874, the biggest typhoon in history hit Hong Kong. They sat out the typhoon on board of their ship off shore overnight hoping that the chains of the anchor would hold. The photo shows the destroyed shore protections dockside. Over 2,000 people were killed in the typhoon.==Date:unknown, Place:Hong Kong, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images)
