The main gate of Shihan school

This is the front gate of National Nagasaki Normal School that had just been established in 1874. The former Nagasaki Bugyosho building on the left going through the gate and the newly built building on the right (the former governor’s residence) were the school buildings. In 1872 Tokyo Public Teachers College was established and thereafter teachers colleges were established across Japan.
