Award-winning writer Ikezawa receives French honor

Japanese novelist Natsuki Ikezawa delivers a speech after being honored as an Officier of the French Order of Arts and Letters at the official residence of the French ambassador in Tokyo on May 27, 2021. A winner of the prestigious Akutagawa Prize, the 75-year old was commended for his contributions to introducing French culture in Japan, including writing essays about his five years living in the suburbs of Paris in the 2000s and a translation of "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery into Japanese.

      TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito (L) hands out the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, the highest honor in this spring's decorations awarded by the Japanese government, to former Japanese Trade Union Confederation President Etsuya Washio (2nd from R) as Prime Minister Taro Aso (C) looks on at the Imperial Palace on May 8.
