Protests in Okinawa
NAHA, Japan - People opposed to the relocation of a U.S. base within the southern Japanese prefecture of Okinawa shout a slogan in unison in front of the prefectural government office in Naha on Dec. 27, 2011, in an attempt to prevent the Defense Ministry from submitting by mail a key environmental impact assessment report to the office. The document marks another step in the controversial plan to relocate the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station within Okinawa. (Kyodo)
