Buddhist monk with jizo deity statue
SENDAI, Japan - Toshiaki Uda, the head priest of Buddhist temple Seiunji in Koshu, Yamanashi Prefecture, shows a palm-sized wooden jizo deity in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, on Jan. 12, 2012. Monks and a Buddhist icon craftsman have launched a project to deliver 1,000 compact jizo deity statues to areas affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. (Kyodo)
