Singapore rural haven struggles to keep out development

SINGAPORE, Singapore - Photo taken July 15, 2014, shows 78-year-old Ahmad Kassim, a resident of Pulau Ubin, a small island tucked away just off the northeastern corner of mainland Singapore. The sleepy rural haven is struggling to preserve its rustic charm, even as other parts of the affluent city-state have long given way to economic development. (Kyodo)
