China's savior from famine misses Nobel Peace Prize

BEIJING, China - Yuan Longping, known as the "father of hybrid rice" for trebling the rice crop per hectare in some 40 years, checks wet-field rice to be harvested in a test paddy in Changsha, Hunan Province, south-central China, on Sept. 26, 2014. He was one of Nobel Peace Prize candidates for 2014 for his fight against famine over 50 years ago due to China's rapid industrialization policy then. (Kyodo)
