1952 Japanese film gets U.S. premiere

NEW YORK, United States - A panel in the lobby of the BAMcinematek theater in Brooklyn, New York, informs visitors of a retrospective titled, ''The Urge for Survival: Kaneto Shindo,'' on April 22, 2011. The retrospective, which began the same day, will run through May 5, featuring 11 of the Japanese film director's works, including a 1952 film depicting the horrors of the atomic bomb, ''Children of Hiroshima.'' Shindo, who is from Hiroshima City, turned 99 that day. (Kyodo)
