Kitakyushu starts trial incineration of quake-tsunami debris
KITAKYUSHU, Japan - A worker at an incineration plant in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, on May 23, 2012 checks radioactive cesium levels in exhaust gas from trial incineration of debris from the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan. Opponents of the incineration cited fear of radioactive contamination as the disaster areas are closer to the disaster-struck Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. (Kyodo)
