                Panasonic's BQ1 Series Electronic Blackboard for Schools

                Panasonic will increase its share of the domestic market for 60-inch and larger electronic blackboards to 30% (4,000 units) in fiscal 2008, up 10 percentage points from fiscal 2006, using 4K high-definition touch-screen LCD displays. The estimated market price is 600,000 yen (excluding consumption tax) for the 65-inch model and 1,400,000 yen for the 75-inch model. A new "comparison mode" that can display up to nine screens has been added so that multiple opinions can be shown on the display and shared in group learning. Up to four teaching materials can be displayed so that digital textbooks can be used effectively. It has acquired "Color Universal Design Certification" for its color scheme, which is distinguishable even by people with color blindness. Sharp (36%), Panasonic (25%), and NEC (16%) hold the largest share of the domestic market for commercial displays.                   KAINAN, Japan - Members of a youth association in Kainan, Wakayama Prefecture, renowned for its traditional lacquer ware, show off a lacquer-coated scooter Nov. 9, 2001, which they have taken two months to finish for display during the annual ''Kishu Lacquer Ware Festival'' beginning in the city Nov. 10. (Kishu is Wakayama's medieval name.) The special product, based on a secondhand Italian make, is not for sale. ''If you ask me, it could carry a price tag of no less than 1 million yen,'' Association chief Toshiyuki Nakamura said.

                      Onward Personal Style's made-to-order shoes business for women

                      Onward Personal Style (Minato-ku, Tokyo) has entered the women's made-to-order shoe business and has started selling shoes on order at its Women's Omotesando Store (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) and Osaka Honmachi Store (Chuo-ku, Osaka). Forty-four types of materials are available, including suede and genuine leather, and customers can apply for the second and subsequent pairs through the website. The second and subsequent pairs of shoes can be ordered through the website, and they are manufactured at a dedicated factory in Japan with which the company has a contract. When customer data is received from the store, the factory uses CAD and CAM to automatically cut the fabric and complete the product. By delivering the products directly from the factory to the customer, the company has been able to reduce costs and shorten delivery times.
