Nagano man sets new record for calculating value of pi

NAGANO, Japan - Shigeru Kondo (front) holds his Guinness World Record certificate in Iida, Nagano Prefecture, on Oct. 16, 2011, awarded for calculating the value of pi to 10 trillion digits using a self-made personal computer, beating the previous record of five trillion digits he set in August 2010.           KYOTO, Japan - Hiroshi Date (R) and a fellow doctor of Kyoto University Hospital on May 14, 2014, hold models of a chest region and a lung produced by a three-dimensional printer for priori simulation of a rare lung transplant from a living donor. In the operation claimed to be the world's first of its kind, the lower lobe of a man's right lung was rotated before being transplanted to the place of his wife's severely afflicted left lung which had been removed in advance.

                      OSAKA, Japan - A man holds a self-propelled, remote-controlled capsule endoscope in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture, on June 21, 2011. A research team in western Japan has successfully captured images inside a human stomach and colon using the endoscope, about 1 centimeter in diameter and 4.5 cm in length.
