Olympus set to launch capsule endoscope in Europe

TOKYO, Japan - Olympus Medical Systems Corp. said Oct. 13 it will launch a capsule endoscope (ih handout photo) for the small bowel on Oct. 24 in 33 European countries including Britain, France and Germany. The capsule, measuring 11 millimeters in diameter and 26 mm in length, will be swallowed to transmit two images per second to a recorder unit via a built-in antenna until it is expelled through the anus, the medical systems unit of Japanese camera maker Olympus Corp. said.         Sharp adopts Java for PDA series

        TOKYO, Japan - Sharp Corp. said March 23 it has adopted the Java programming language for its personal digital assistant (shown in handout photo), mobile phones and other electronics gadgets with telecommunications functions. Sharp plans to take the wraps off its multimedia-savvy PDAs in the United States and wireless PDAs in Europe this fall, equipping them with Linux and Zaurus operating systems that will use Java for compatibility with numerous domestic and overseas application programs.
