Nintendo launches DSi in domestic market

OSAKA, Japan - A woman shows off Nintendo Co.'s DSi, a new version of its popular DS handheld game console, launched in Japan on Nov. 1. Nintendo resumes sales of palm-sized "Famicom" console

Osaka,Japan -June 28: Nintendo Co. on Thursday resumed the sales in Japan of a smaller, palm-sized version of its 35-year-old popular game console "Famicom" in response to requests for its revival among fans. Many stores in Japan sold out of the Nintendo Classic Mini Family Computer console after its initial release in November 2016, and the company halted its production in April 2017.

Matsushita expands Viera TV lineup

TOKYO, Japan - Seven new models of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.'s popular large-screen, flat-panel Viera televisions are displayed at a presentation in Tokyo on Aug. 9. Six of the models are plasma TVs with full high-definition specifications, ranging in size from 42-inch to 65-inch screens. Sony unveils new Walkman that 'evolves' to suit users' taste

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said Sept. 8 it will release five new palm-size digital Walkman models that ''evolves'' in accordance with listeners' preference of music. The new Walkman A series, to be put on the Japanese market Nov. 19, is equipped with functions to learn users' taste in music. The five new models, including a 20-gigabyte one capable of storing up to 13,000 songs, are expected to be available for 30,000 to 35,000 yen. (Kyodo)

KDDI cellphones to be used to pay fares at JR East stations

TOKYO, Japan - A model demonstrates how a mobile phone handset is used to pay train fares at a press conference at a Tokyo hotel on July 11. Subscribers to KDDI Corp.'s ''au'' mobile phone service will be able to pay train fares with their handsets at East Japan Railway Co. stations starting in January 2006, the two companies said. JR East will allow its Suica electronic train fare card functions to be installed on Internet-capable mobile phone handsets for use with KDDI's EZ FeliCa service to be launched in September in combination with Sony Corp.'s FeliCa contactless integrated-circuit card technology. Omron to sell lifelike cat robots

OSAKA, Japan - A model shows off cat robots, made by Omron Corp., that will go on the market from Nov. 20. The robots, called ''Necoro,'' can stretch their backs, lie down and purr. They are the same size as real cats and each weigh 1.6 kilograms. The robots contain various sensors which among other things allow them to memorize the frequency of human voices, so that they will face their owners when the owners call out the pet robots' names. Omron plans to sell 5,000 Necoro robots for about 185,000 yen each.
