Bonfire-loving monkeys on show in Aichi monkey park

NAGOYA, Japan - A herd of Yaku monkeys in Japan Monkey Park in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture huddle around a bonfire in the park to keep warm. Most monkeys are by nature afraid of fire but these Yaku monkeys, native of Yakushima island in Kagoshima Prefecture, have apparently overcome their fear after park officials started making a bonfire inside the park every year in 1959. The bonfire-loving monkeys will be shown to the public everyday from Dec. 22 to Jan. 6, and during weekends and public holidays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 24. (Kyodo)
