Up to 6.4 C temperature rise expected by end of century

TOKYO, Japan - Two simulation pictures provided by the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) show what the Arctic Sea looked like in 2000 (top) and what it will look like in 2040 (bottom). A U.N. climate change panel warned on Feb. 2 that the Earth's average surface air temperature is projected to rise by up to 6.4 C from the 1990 level by the end of this century, revising upward its projection made in 2001 to show more serious concern over global warming.
