Traditional rice cake lifting event in Kyoto

KYOTO, Japan - A woman lifts a 90-kilogram rice cake during an annual event at Daigoji Temple in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward on Feb. 23. A total of 74 men and women aged between 12 and 64 competed to see how long they could keep holding up the rice cakes -- a 105-kg cake for men and a 90-kg one for women -- in the event, which has a history of more than 400 years.
